3D scanning and advanced 3D color printing techniques are bringing the conservation and reproduction of art to a new level. In this Van Gogh 3D-printed reproduction, it is even possible to see colored brush strokes in three dimensions.
Three reproductions of historical paintings have been created, thus far, as a result of a collaboration between Delft University of Technology, Océ Technologies BV, and three Dutch museums: Kröller Müller Museum, Mauritshuis, and Rijksmuseum.
The research project 3D Fine Art Reproduction also represents the combined effort of the following research groups at Delft University of Technology: Advanced Manufacturing (Industrial Design Engineering), Vision Based Robotics (Mechanical Engineering), and Virtual Materials and Mechanics (Material Science and Engineering).
