Planned obsolescence is the practice of designing and building expiration dates into products, forcing consumers to buy replacements sooner than they might otherwise. This practice generates money for certain companies, but is unethical and/or unsustainable, to say the least. 3D Printing gives consumers the power to augment, fix or modify these products, increasing their lifespan or even creating completely new combinations. Understanding this, forward-looking companies are starting to create products that embrace these new phenomena.
